Where You Can Travel Once You Are Vaccinated - 4 Countries to Visit Now
COVID-19 immunization programs are in full swing all over the world. There’s finally hope that we may return to some semblance of pre-pandemic normalcy.
Along with our day-to-day lives returning to normal, we can expect travel to experience a big comeback! Aren’t we all long overdue for a vacation at this point? I’m missing my trips and exploring other cultures!
COVID-19 saw most countries close their borders, and put in place strict restrictions for travellers. While many countries are still in the early stages of their immunization plans, other’s are starting to announce how they will allow access to travellers once they are fully vaccinated.
Here’s a look at some destinations that are beginning to open their doors to tourists who have been fully vaccinated.
Belize
Belize is leading the pack in the Caribbean by being the first to welcome vaccinated travellers!
Canadian travellers who wish to bypass pre-departure COVID-19 testing must produce proof that they have received all required doses of a government-approved vaccine at least two weeks before arrival.
Why should you visit Belize? Jungles and beaches, with a dose of adventure and culture! In particular, the Belize Barrier Reef is the second largest in the world, after Australia's, and with more than 100 types of coral and some 500 species of tropical fish, it's pure paradise for scuba divers and snorkelers. Georgia
International travelers who can prove they’ve received a two-dose course of a COVID-19 vaccine can arrive by air in Georgia.
What’s there to see and do in Georgia? From its green valleys spread with vineyards to its old churches and watchtowers perched in fantastic mountain scenery, Georgia never disappoints. In recent years Tbilisi has emerged as one of the coolest cities in Europe, with a burgeoning club scene, world-class restaurants and a selection of natural wine bars that easily make it the hippest spot in the region. Guatemala
International travellers can visit Guatemala with a negative COVID-19 test result, but you can have this requirement waived if you have a valid certificate showing you have received the COVID-19 vaccine, with the last dose given at least two weeks before arrival.
Why visit Guatemala? Two words - Maya Pyramids! The Maya villages in the highlands, where locals still wear traditional dress, are the most visible indicators of this centuries-old culture. But look closely when you're visiting an archaeological site and you'll see altars with modern offerings to ancient spirits. Learn all about it here.
Iceland
Iceland has been at the top of travellers bucket lists for years now and they’re among the first nations to allow qualifying visitors to skip testing and quarantine if they can provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
Why go to Iceland? Well to start, there’s volcanos, glaciers, caves, hot springs and geothermal lagoons, and of course the aurora borealis! On top of that there’s amazing culture and hospitality! Learn more here.
What countries are considering opening up to vaccinated travellers next?
There’s lots of chatter about Greece welcoming vaccinated travellers. Singapore is also considering it. Phuket, Krabi, Pattaya and Chiang Mai in Thailand are aiming to allow vaccinated travellers soon with expansion to other areas in the country by July. I’m expecting this list to grow quickly as more and more countries continue to see an increase in the percentage of their populations that have received the COVID-19 vaccine.
Aren’t other countries' borders open already?
Yes! Many countries have re-opened their borders to international travellers, however, they require negative COVID-19 tests and/or quarantine upon arrival. Immunization against COVID-19 allows for a hassle free experience when travelling, and also protects you and others from contracting COVID-19.
Keep in mind that the above rules may not apply to all nationalities and situations and are subject to change at any time. As always, it’s best to consult with a trusted travel consultant to ensure you’re up to speed on all current requirements.
